As some of us have mentioned that Canon 40D is the latest model of the
entry level of professional, which is better than the XTi. But not much
difference comparing to the price, or the 40D is a faster for s****t, and
few
small improvements over the older models. So if you have $$$ then 40D is
a
good choice, if you don't have lot of $$$ then XTi is a steal deal
comparing
to Nikon.
I read the XTi is a little smaller than 20D/30D/40D, and doesn't do
low-light situation as good as 20D/30D/ especially 40D (but not so bad).
Also, I read Nikon has little more feature than Canon *except* Nikon is
very
weak on low-light (and more expensive than Canon, and more expensive
doesn't
mean better).
Me? I would go with the XTi and use the extra $$$ on good lens which will
give you much better IQ than 40D with cheapie lens. And when you have
more
$$$$ then you can upgrade to 40D or even 50D (in about 2 years) and use
the
XTi as backup or give to your son.
