My rather elderly Voigtlander rangefinder camera is dying.
It gets used for 'arty' black and white photography, not that I get much
published, but there you go...
Anyway, for snaps I use a digital compact but I'd like something a touch
more sophisticated for the black and white stuff, and something that'll
give me the control over the picture the Voigtlander did.
I looked at the 'digital rangefinders' by Epson and Leica and recoiled at
the price, it's a hobby not a profession, and I looked at buying a new
film rangefinder from Voigtlander, and was highly tempted, but it seems
almost perverse to buy a film camera these days.
Any advice?
I'd like easy, preferably physical, control over the shutter speed and
aperture settings, and a decent lens.
I've looked at the Nikon 5100 and the Leica D-Lux 3 but I don't really
know
enough about them.
I'm really looking for something that will take terrifyingly sharp black
and
white pictures.
Oh yes, available in black, and not bigger than a rangefinder, SLRs are
intrusive.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Barbeques on fire by the chalets past the castle headland
I watched the gift shops glitter in the darkness off the Newborough gate
All these moments will be lost in time, like icecream on the beach
Time for tea.
