Actually it's the cost incurred in getting the goods into the EC that is 
subject to duty (HMRC Reference:Notice 252 (June 2006) Section 3.15(a)).  
As air freight across the Atlantic is considerably more expensive than 
surface ****pping within the UK that means the total cost isn't much 
different.
