For many cameras, the write speed dramatically decreases when you fill
about
80% of a card. In order to keep the speed up, pop out the nearly full one
and just pop in a new card.
When reading the manual for my A720, Canon had a warning about this
problem.
You might want to check your manual to see if it says something similar.
