If I am not mistaken you are Linux man (sorry if I am wrong). But about
Photoshop costing an arm and leg, I would say it's much cheaper than most
people image (including you). Cuz for very simple reasons.
- If you are student or family member who is either in hi-school or
college
(unless none family member is student, then may be a friend .. or unless
no
friend is a student then you are out of luck), then you can have Photoshop
for $300. Then you will enjoy having an extra arm and an extra leg for
just
$300
- After you have the extra arm and extra leg, then *if* you decide to
upgrade to newer version (Adobe releases a newer version every 18 months)
then $150 is all you have to pay. If you decide to upgrade every other
version then you can enjoy the top notch every 3 years, and it will bring
the cost down to $75 per year.
- Now just forget about the $75/year. With Photoshop you can enjoy
tens/hundreds of thousands of books, answers, tutorials, tips, tricks
which
money can't buy.
And after few years investment (practicing) you will know that what you
have learned will stay with you for many decades to come. Then you will
realize how cheap Photoshop really is, and you also realize that every
minute you work on Photoshop will be your investment in the future.
Of course, nobody can force you not to save an arm and leg (which you
don't have to begin with), but it's hard for me to see some waste of
bright
mind which I don't have much left to enjoy <bg>. So, even I won't earn
anything, won't gain any pound etc.. but I would suggest people to put
more
time and energy on Photoshop .. even more on Photoshop than RAW converter.
