The vast majority of development for FidoNet,
specifically including the Echomail facility, was done
after Microsoft Windows exited.
1979 Usenet
1984 FidoNet
1985 Microsoft Windows
1986 FidoNet Echomail
1990 Microsoft Windows 3.0
In addition, FidoNet hit its peak of popularity after
Microsoft Windows became ubiquitous, during the
1992-1996 period.
