Remember the siren tests on something like the first Saturday of the month
at 1PM or something like that?
I was raised in a small midwestern town, back then. I spent some time
there in 2001, and when we had a tornado come through from the sound of it
they were still using those old sirens -- if not, what I heard was a
darned good simulation of it. And I have to say the associations with
that sound from the duck-n-cover here-come-the-bombers fifties gave
the sound a bit of a spooky edge, even half a century later.
