The way I read your post, you want to "compress" only the width.  Am I 
correct?

From my experience, that isn't the best way to approach framing a shot
like 
that.  Compressing only one direction will skew the perspective of the
whole 
image and leave it looking slightly exaggerated in one direction.

Perhaps a better approach would be to simply crop 0.43" from each side of 
the long dimension.  That would bring it down to 10" without messing up
the 
aspect ratio.
