My strobes draw a fair amount of current in a fairly short time (5-10 
seconds). The rechargeables can't seem to keep up. If they succeed in 
sourcing the current, they heat up and lose their charge more rapidly. The

rechargeables that have worked for me give perhaps a third of the use per 
charge of an aklaline, so I have to carry three times as many batteries. 
If 
they don't succeed in supplying the current, they tend to swell, damaging 
the battery compartment.

By buying batteries in bulk (144 at a time, bulk packaging), and keeping 
them in cold storage with the film, I always have fresh batteries. I don't

have to be concerned whether the battery is fully charged or not.
