I am stressing over what camera to buy, any help appreciated. I
already own a Canon EOS 10D 6mp digital SLR, with a nice zoom
telephone lens. But I want to upgrade to a higher megapixel camera, I
feel my 10D is outdated. I have taken many nice photos with it, but I
want to take my photography to a higher level to expand and build my
****tfolio. I primarily photograph models, have done loads of artistic
****s, some fa****on and casual. I want to do swimsuit and fa****on now.
I am looking at the Canon EOS 5D (13mp), Rebel Xt (10mp)i, and the
upcoming 13mp Rebel Xsi (April 27 release date). I hesitate to buy
the 5D because it seems like prices are coming down so fast that soon
there will be 20mp SLRs at very affordable prices. So I am thinking
maybe a 10-12mp would be fine for now, maybe even the Xti? for now for
expanding my skills and ****tfolio, then in a couple of years buy a
20mp ($7000 now which is beyond my budget).
Would the 5D be worth the premium? I could go with the 5D now ($1600
street price) if it is really worth it, but the Xti street price is
only $500. XSi comes out in 5 weeks and will sell for $800.
I guess it comes down to what do I really need for swimsuit / fa****on
photography with models, to make quality photos for my ****tfolio over
the next year to two. Do I need more than my existing 10D? do I need
more than the Rebel Xti? Should I wait and get the Rebel XSi? Or just
go for it and buy the 5D now? I like to stick with Canon, I am
familiar with their menu structure on the cameras, and I have a lens
that might work if I were to get an Xti or the Xsi (not sure).
Any thoughts or advice greatly appreciated, this a tough decision. The
bottom line is I want to get what I need to build my ****tfolio. My
dream is to make an extra $10,000/year with freelance photography in a
4 years.
