You'd have to go a long long way to get a better camera than the 40D in
the 
sub £1000 range.  In fact some places are selling the body only for £630 
plus £100 cashback.  This means at the moment it is a bargain at £530. 
With 
the lens you want you you can get away with less than £1000 the lot. Go fo

the 40D.
