I wonder of this project might be better if for each picture you have
time date place and photographers name (even subject name/place)
Then you can see the path taken by the cameras Far more interesting than
just a large (99*36 or 99*24 ) number of random photos.
Some cameras may be used up in one day in one city. Others may take a
month or two and travel around the world.
You may have similar pictures taken within minutes of each other in the
same place by different cameras on very different routes by people who
have no connection.
Also if people email in the time date place their name and camera name
etc when they take the photo you can see the progress of the camera.
Also it is less likely that a camera will "disappear". The person who
receives it will know there is a trace up to that point. So unless a
complete stranger the recipient will have more of feeling of duty to
continue the chain.
Even if it does go missing you have the enigmatic route it took without
the pictures... Others may be inspired to recreate it's route.
So if 99 Cameras [08] works (and you feel like financing it again) you
can do 99 camera 09 next year. Whilst none of us here are likely to
see it I bet "99 cameras 99" will be one hell of a set of photos!
