My experience as a TV service engineer leads me to believe that yes,
the large piece of iron *will* be magnetised, if only by the Earth's
magnetic field.

Back when everybody's TV had a tube, colour TVs were very sensitive to
stray magnetism. I remember having to use a degauss coil on central
heating radiators so as to fix the colour purity on TV screens.

It's unlikely your camera is going to be that sensitive. There's not
going to be that many sensitive parts. Motors for focussing, zooming
etc could be affected by a strong permanent magnet up close.
