My wild guess is that your sales person mixed something up, maybe he meant
the new
Nikon AF-S DX VR 16-85 mm / 3,5-5,6 to be the "new" one and the 18-70 to
be
the "old" one, those are the two only DX nikon lenses in that focal range
AFAIK.
