When you buy a dslr, you are also buying
into a system made up of lenses, accessories
and camera bodies.
Nikon's system is arguably more
complete, although more expensive.
When it comes to quality between the
two dslrs, flick a coin. Really. The small
differences won't really matter that much,
you'll be literally splitting hairs.
Pentax system is cheaper, has more
options in terms of lenses (the K mount
was more popular with after market lens
makers than the F mount).
The D40 will have slightly better low
light ability and it has a higher flash
synch speed which is good for balanced
flash with natural light. But it only
auto-focuses with AFS Nikon lenses,
which are more expensive.
There are quite a few good reviews of
both cameras in many of the d-slr
sites, if you need urls let me know and
I or someone else will post a few.
Better form your own opinion?
