The cameras that NASA took outside on the moon were not Nikons. They
were Hasselblads.

http://www.hasselblad.se/about-hasselblad/hasselblad-in-space.aspx

Inside the Shuttle's cabin is a significantly less harsh environment,
so ruggedness standards can be addressed through adding a protective
case, just like they've done for the HP-41cv calculators.

These protective cases vary in performance and thus, cost. I recall
one project from several years ago where the job was to protect a
$3,000 optic - - the protective case ran $10,000 as it had to also be
waterproof and thermal shock-proof. Figuring out how to test the
"rainproof" requirement at the extreme cold (IIRC -65F) temperature
requirement was particularly interesting.

As I said ... and you cut & ran ...

"As a general rule of thumb, anything with optics has a tough time
passing the drop that's done in the "glass down" orientation.

But do feel free to take your cameras out and drop it IAW 810 with
the
lens oriented down to show us the results :-) "

If you don't know who can conduct a certified -810 drop test, why
gosh! There's one right in your own bloody back yard:

http://www.dtc.army.mil/where.html

If you cough up out of your own pocket eight (8) D3 bodies with eight
(8) AF-S Nikkor 24-70 f/2.8G ED lenses, I'll make a few phone
calls ...I should be able to meet you outside the gate to pick them up
and we'll see about going and breaking 'em for you. If none of them
break, then you can brag that you're right and that I'm wrong.

Just keep in mind that I'm specifically talking about bare equipment
drops - - no protective cases - - and that if the whole system still
isn't in once piece and within spec for all of its optical properties
afterwords, it is considered 'broken'.

Until then, you're just blowing more bull**** fanboi smoke...and
you've been called on it.
