Hi all
I'm interested in doing some aerial photography, but so far I've had
my feet firmly planted on the ground. I have some questions about both
the flight and photography which I hope you may be able to help me
with...
Does a strict flight plan need to be filed and followed or can we
specify a general flying area? Would most likely be flying along the
general route of a highway but I wouldn't mind deviating here and
there for a better angle, or if I see something interesting. There
would be several areas I'd like to photograph rather than a specific
location.
Also, are there minimum altitude limits over residential/settled
areas? Would a high wing aircraft be a better choice and do these
typically have windows that can be opened to poke my lens out of?
Using a 35mm camera what would be a suitable focal length for general
wide angle oblique shots and also closer shots of buildings, roadways
etc? I have a 70-200mm zoom but I'm not sure that would be long
enough. What is the best time of day in general to capture the images?
How far do you need to bend the 1/shutterspeed rule to allow for
movement?
Finally, if anyone can point me towards companies that can charter
aircraft for aerial photography purposes I would appreciate it. I'm
located in Roxburgh Park and the two nearest major air****ts are
Melbourne and Essendon, but I presume I'd probably be flying from
elsewhere.
Thanks for any help!
