The real answer to which is better (Nikon or Canon) is SOMETIMES.  While 
both have all of the common features each may have a feature the other 
does not.  So (if you want to use that feature) sometimes Nikon is 
better and sometimes Canon is better.

In the days of film I just liked Nikon.  In the digital era of point and 
shoot (long zoom) I prefer Canon.  In the DSLR world I am leaning toward 
Canon (no decision yet) since I can use 1 similar menu system and the 
price is better.  I think that I will give a lot of weight to the lenses 
I think I want to use.
