I think (and I think Laura would agree) that it's *always* nice to have 
a simple, plain HTML alternative available to the reader.

One common way around the Flash problem (the problem being that not 
everyone has, or even wants to have, Flash installed on their computer) 
is to put in an "opt-out" button, one that says "non-Flash version" or 
some such, on the page.

In other words, instead of either playing a Flash animation or forcing 
them to download Flash, give them a way to avoid the whole thing
altogether.
