This is the smaller 8x10, note the hand wheels on the
front. There was also a larger version with double posts for
the bellows and another with twin sup****t columns for the
head. The latter was mostly made for aerial mapping from
10x10 negatives.
The head moves back and forth on the trianglar tubular
sup****t. The illusterated enlarger does not appear to have
the lens, shutter, or diaphragm control. Not all Saltzman's
had the latter.
The pictured enlarger appears to have the original
Cooper-Hewitt type mercury arc lamp. This was one of three
lamhouses available from Saltzman. There were after market
color heads available from other sources later.
Usually, the tubes of the head sup****t were covered with
foam rubber cu****ons to prevent bumping your head on them.
One can find foam plastic pipe insulation to take the place
of the originals.
At one time there was a fellow who specialized in
maintaining Saltzman stuff but I think he is long dead now.
I don't think anyone else does that and I don't know if
there is a cashe of parts around. I suspect a good machinist
could make nearly any of the smaller parts.
Saltzman also made a very heavy easel with two direction
tilting for perspective correction. This also had lead
screws and handwheels for operation. I believe it fitted the
heavier duty version of the enlarger but may have also
fitted the one illustrated on the site linked above.
