Thanks for your reply.
I thought that EF-S will "mount" on any EOSs except that it probably has a
longer rear protrusions due to a shorter lens register (focusing
distance).
So, I thought the only issue was the possible physical interference with
the
mirror.
Incidentally, while searching for the answer to this, I stumbled into;

Depending on the amount of rear protrusion, perhaps (and I hope) similar
hack could be done on 17-85 (or hopefully no such hack would be necessary.
I looked at the mirror box of IX and seemed as though there might be
enough
clearance for the smaller IX mirror to clear the lens rear). But I do
understand the possible limitation to only the APS-C image circle (I still
wish to experiment though), and if so, I have to wonder if it is worth my
while to hack this lens although I intend to use the lens for my future
purchase of Canon DSLR (presently using Pentax *ist Ds).
Oh, well..... :-).
