the compppany that did much of the contract toxicology work on
olestra, , all the mice had diarrhea. so it's not like they didn't
know it would happen or anything.
but the mice never really got "sick", just continued to have liquid
feces-(which is saying alot for mice since they die easily from even
mild dehydration and diarrhea because their BMR is so high due to their
small size)- so the FDA passed it. No pun intended.
