"Metric sizes" are film sizes normally stated in, well, metric measures, 
like 6x9 and 9x12 (both in centimeters), as opposed to "inch"-sized 
films, like 4x5, 5x7, 8x10, etc. So, counterintuitively, 9x12 film is 
smaller than 4x5 film.
