Many photographers keep one of these Wollensak Sunshade and Filter
Adaptors on their Speed Graphic, Crown Graphic, Bush Pressman, or
other press cameras all the time.
It acts as a lenshood and holds filters, but the special thing is that
it is designed to engage the f-stop indicator on the lens, so that by
turning the lenshood, you change the f-stop. The f-stop chosen is
clearly indicated on the top -- you don't have to look on the bottom
of the lens, as usual. . (Look at the 8 o'clock position on the
left-hand picture above to see how this feature works.)
This device is designed for lenses such as the Kodak Ektar, Wollensak
Optar, etc. which have a barrel diameter of about 36 to 39mm. It fits
my 135mm Optar in a Graphex shutter. I had similar sunshade that
worked well on my 152mm Ektar (can't rmember which shutter). It
should also work with a lens of longer focal length than 135mm, as
long as the barrel-size is 36 to 39 mm.
The sunshade attaches to the lens with a thumbscrew, and the filter is
held with another thumbscrew on the opposite side. It holds all
Series VI filters, which are always available on eBay.
This sunshade comes with a Kodak Telek #2 filter, which effectively
increases the focal length of a standard lens for shots such as
****traits, where a longer lens is preferred. Both the sunshade and
the filter are very clean-looking and in very good condition, The
Telek filter comes with its original box.
