Thirty years ago, in the early days of my film photography, I purchased
a number of these 'Gift Shop' slide sets at various tourist attractions.
They have been stuck away in a box and I have probably never looked at
them since the day I bought them. Since I am currently going through a
MAJOR house cleaning, I came upon them again.
Without exception, EVERY single transparency is faded so far into the
magenta that is virtually useless. I tried scanning a few and I
couldn't get them to look even remotely decent, so I threw them out.
I had both Kodachrome & Ektachrome slides of my own stored in the same
box, and they still look perfect.
Why did the store-bought slides fade so much?
