I was ordering a large quantity of film when I noticed a warning that
Kodak have discontinued the Elite Color 200 and 400 emulsions.
I'm particularly sad because this means the end of the line for
T-Grain colour negative films that started with the wonderful Ektar
range of emulsions in the late 1980s. I was a keen user of Ektar 25
and 100, also sometimes the ISO 400 and 1000 versions. I believe that
Ektar 25 was the finest grain negative film ever made.
Obviously we cannot expect every single variety of film to continue to
be manufactured but I am particularly sorry to see these Elite Color
films go. I found them particularly useful in dull, flat light, when
they injected punchy colours into what would have been very grey
scenes.
In those cir***stances I will probably replace them with Kodak ****tra
VC, which is a very good film, though of a distinctly different
character, or the Fuji equivalent. But neither of these can match the
Ektar-derived Elite Color emulsions.
