Yes it does print directly onto CD (assuming you have the correct type
of printable CDs.
Where are you in the country? I may have a spare one kicking about
(can't be 100% certain). Mine arrived defective from the supplier and I
ended up with a replacement. I think I ended up with a spare tray.
